Great Adventure, located in Jackson, New Jersey, is one of more that 20 Six Flags theme parks in the United States. Six Flags Great Adventure, which is about an hour's ride from either New York City or Philadelphia, PA, boasts three parks: Great Adventure, which features over 100 rides; Wild Safari, which is a drive-through safari park; and Hurricane Harbor, the new water park.
If you are a daredevil and love the thrill of spins and whirls, then Great Adventure has a lot to offer from "Medusa", the first "floorless" roller coaster in the world, to the "Viper", the first standard roller coaster able to do a 360ΒΊ roll and any thrill ride in between, you won't be disappointed. Be prepared to wait, however, especially during the summer months. The wait for some of the more daring rides can be up to an hour. Even if you not a daredevil or have small children, there's still plenty to do at the park. Great Adventure features an entire "Looney Tune" land for young children, with a variety of rides, characters and activities for the young ones to enjoy. And even better, children under 48" get into the park for half of the adult admission fee. The park also has special events and attractions throughout the season, including concerts and festivals, which are included in the admission price.
If nature and wildlife are more your cup of tea, the Wildlife Safari is an enjoyable drive-through 350 acre park where you'll see over 1,200 animals living in their natural habitats. You must stay in your car and keep your windows up as the animals, especially the monkeys, are very curious. The children will get a thrill out of watching the monkeys jump on the car hood or peek into the window while sitting on your car roof. If you car top is vinyl, you'll take a big chance riding through the safari as the animals do jump on top of the cars and the park will not be held responsible for any damage.
The new Hurricane Harbor, one of the largest water parks in the world, recently opened. It features many water slides, wave pools and water "sports" and activities for the entire family to enjoy.
Admission to all three parks can be purchased separately or as a package. The three park adult admission (Great Adventure, Wildlife Safari and Hurricane Harbor) is $63.59; children under 48" and seniors can get the three park ticket for $42.39. If you are planning an overnight stay to get the most out of your time at the park, there are several moderately priced hotels in the area.
Six Flags Great Adventure offers something for everyone. It's a trip packed with thrills, music, nature and good old-fashioned family fun!
